Improve Mobile Phone Battery Life

While there appears to be no bounds for the mobile manufacturers’ ingenuity when it comes to stuffing as many features as possible in the phone, it seems more difficult to make the batteries actually sufficient for the intensive use phones today are exposed to. We have even found some customers asking for a simple no frills phone with long battery life. Here are 6 tips to get your mobile phone battery to last longer….

  1. Don’t have the battery in your pocket - Mobile batteries do not last as long when you keep the phone in your pocket. Perhaps it is most useful to be there and it is also where most of the Phone Shop team have it. However the fact is that the battery performs better if, instead, the phone in a handbag or briefcase because the phone quickly goes a little too hot when it is in a tight pocket and becomes exposed to body heat. Even a belt clip to hold the phone is okay, albeit far from fashionable!.
  2. Turn off the 3G connection – when it is operational 3G is faster in data transfer than a standard GSM connection – but it also draws more power. If you do not have to surf with your mobile phone for a while you will save  a lot of battery power if you can set your phone to skip 3G possibilities.
  3. Turn off the other connections - It is quite logical, if your phone is always available as a Bluetooth device, always in search of WiFi hotspots, looking for the GPS position and checking for new  email every two minutes, the battery will discharge quickly. The basic rule is simple – the more features and connectivity options you can do without, the longer the battery will run on your phone.
  4. Change display settings - The above tips are things that improve battery life, particularly when you are not actively using the handset. Just like on laptops you can save a lot of battery by little tricks with the display settings. If you can see what is displayed on the screen even without the phone being set to maximum brightness, there is a lot of battery life to save. If you often pick up cell phone and glance at the screen to check the time or for new texts etc, there are also battery-saving opportunities by changing the settings for how long after use, it takes the screen turns off.
  5. Surf mobile sites - Sure, modern mobile browsers such as on the Acer Liquid are capable of displaying regular web sites almost as good as on a computer, but loading times are longer and heavier than the performance if you are able to surf in to the mobile version of the site you are visiting. Save the addresses of your favorite sites from the bookmarks and keep as much as possible to the mobile versions, so you avoid wasting the battery on downloading graphic heavy advertisements.
  6. Turn off unnecessary programs and widgets - The common thread to save mobile battery is: away with the unnecessary.  Check out the programs and widgets active on the phone to see if they are really needed and turn off anything that is not. Then the phone can rest a little, CPU and memory need not be used as much and the battery will pay you back with a longer life.
