The Affordable mobiles is part of Shebang Technologies Group Ltd, one of the largest independent mobile phone connectors in the UK. They have over 400 employees across their Head Office and 50+ Retail Stores. With over 18 years experience in the telecoms industry, they offer an array of competitive mobile phone deals, which include; contract, prepay and sim free mobile phones, mobile phone accessories, mobile broadband and fixed line telecoms including home broadband. They are the UK’s Number 1 Orange independent reseller.

The Shopping Experience

The website is pretty easy to navigate, via the left sidebar. You can select a brand/model from a selection in a drop down box. And you can also search by sim only, pay as you go and contract upgrade options. There’s a frequently asked questions page to browse and an email address and hotline number. They accept most major debit and credit cards, plus give you the option to pay via paypal. There’s not an awful lot to do on the site except for browse the phones and choose one, so it’s very simple to use.

Bargain Hunting

They offer 20 cash back by redemption, without any explanation of what that means exactly, so have a wild guess. They are offering some great free gifts when you sign up for a 24 month contract. For example, you can grab yourself a free apple ipad 2 plus cashback on redemption. They are also offering free laptops, t.v’s with many of the contracts.

Delivery and Returns

They offer free next day delivery on everything. Northern Scotland and off shore will take longer. To return an item you either need to complete an online form or contact them via phone. there is a 7 day cooling off period should you change your mind and want to return an item.

Customer Service

They have a customer service phone number and they do have a social media presence, although it’s not very professional or well managed unfortunately. On Twitter they mainly post automatically from Facebook, so there’s not much customer interaction, although I’m sure they would answer if a customer did send them a tweet. The twitter icons on their website do not link correctly to their twitter account. Their Facebook presence also needs an overhaul. Currently they have a profile and not a business page, so they will likely get banned by Facebook at some point. If you click any of the Facebook links on their website, it will take you to your own profile and not theirs, so the links are not correct there either.

The Verdict

An easy website to navigate. They offer a simple site that is easy to use. Contact details are easy to find and payment options are clear. My only gripe is they should fix their links to their facebook and twitter page. They list a couple of awards they’ve won on their site, but they are way behind the leaders when it comes to social media. For a company that claims to turn over in excess of £100m per annum, you think they would make more of an effort to stay on top of social media. It is after all, expected in this day and age.
