Happy Customer for a decade
Been with 02 for over ten years (I think it was called BT Cellnet at one point?)
All started with having a work mobile and then when I retired I took over the phone. Had a few upgrades which has always been a smooth process but I normally skip every other upgrade and ask them for cashback or a lower monthly cost and they are happy to oblige.
Excellent coverage and no reason to think of moving to anyone else.
O2 exploded on to the scene in 2001 from what used to be the wireless division British Telecom. With O2 serving close to 20 million customers in the UK, it is more than just a household name. Apart from mobile, O2 also deal in broadband Internet and fixed lined phones where they use a mixture of new networks and existing BT lines to extend their coverage to the remotest corners of the country. When it comes to service they are second to none with UK based call centres.
Pay Monthly
If you are looking to get a new phone or upgrade an existing handset, you are best off looking at their monthly plans. Choosing any 24 month plan will save you £5 per month than on an equivalent 18 month plan. Some handsets are only available on the higher plans for instance a iPhone 4 with 8GB for £37/month which gives you 600min talk time and unlimited text and 500MB of data. For £21.50 per month you can get a BlackBerry 9360 with 200 minutes of talk time unlimited text and 500MB of data on a 24 month contract. This deal is exclusive to O2.
Pay & Go
If you are happy with your current mobile device, you can choose between a myriad of talk time, text and data bundles starting from as little as £15 pound per month for unlimited calls and texts to friends on the O2 network. For £10.50 on their Simplicity Plan you can get 500 UK texts and 100 minutes of talk time. On the same plan if you want to add Internet they have deals starting from £3. If you are a heavy user of text and web services from your device a 10 top up will get you 300 texts and 500MB of data. Depending on how much you choose to top-up you can look at extra Bolt On services as well.
Topping Up and Customer service
If you are on a Pay & Go plan it has never been easier to top-up your credits. You can buy vouchers and use e-top-up cards at outlets across the country. You can use cash machines as well and pay directly through your bank account. If you are more tech savvy you can top up on the web and even through Facebook these days. If you run into trouble and ring customer service you will most likely to be talking to someone in their main call-centre in Glasgow or one of their other English call centres. The staff are friendly and the call times are generally low. The staff that deal with iPhone enquiries are very knowledgeable. They are very quick to adapt to new technologies and generally the whole O2 experience is top notch.
