Apple loses an iPhone 5 prototype
UPDATED 1st September 2011 – Did an Apple employee lose another iPhone prototype? It’s unclear at this stage whether the lost device is a prototype of the iPhone 5 which is expected to debut next month. The same scenario occurred last time in the build up to the iPhone 4 release, the device was lost and then found by Brian Hogan who sold the device to Gizmodo for $5k! Maybe Apple saw the publicity garnered from the stunt last time around and thought they’d ‘lose’ a phone again this year. Not that Apple needs any help building buzz around the launch of a new iPhone. Read the full story
When is the iPhone 5 coming out?
Recent rumours have suggested that the iPhone 5 is due to be released in the USA sometime between September and November , although Apple have not yet announced that they are even in the process of making an iPhone 5. There is also the possibility of Apple not releasing the iPhone 5 until 2012 with the iPhone 4 being a success so far this year and the new release of the iPhone 4 in white, they are in no position to put a rush on a new device.
There is still the question on whether or not Apple will decide to just bring out an upgraded version of the iPhone 4 like they did so with the iPhone 3G and 3GS. Apple are going to have to work hard on producing the iPhone 5 after the bad press they received when they released the iPhone 3GS as nothing but merely a bump up to the previous iPhone 3G, so with the pressure on for Apple to produce a new and adequate iPhone different from previous releases it would seem more likely that they will hold back the iPhone 5 until 2012.
However speculations are flying even more with the announcement from Apple that the iOS5 is to be released this September it seems the release of the iPhone 5 is near upon us. With previous iPhones, the corresponding iOS were announced around 2 and a half months before the iPhones were released. The last being the iPhone 4, the iOS was announced in the April followed by the release of the device in the June.
So it is looking like a new device will be released later this year, there is the chance that it will be a refresh of the iPhone 4 with the flaws it has and Apple constantly trying to perfect its hardware. But it is looking like the new device will have an all-new look and feel compared to the previous iPhones, with the suggestion that Apple are still trying to figure out what it is that they want to release. Rumours have abound that a modestly improved iPhone 4s could come out before a major upgrade, Apple to stay in competition with its competitors is likely to want to push a new iPhone out whether it be 4s or iPhone 5, before Christmas.
