As with most things, people love it if they can get a bargain or save a little bit of extra cash here and there. When looking to buy a new mobile phone, it’s great if you can get a new phone and save some money you didn’t think you’d be able to save!
1. Compare prices properly first
Make sure you thoroughly check who is offering the phone at the cheapest rate. Use the internet and comparison websites to your advantage, but also walk into phone shops to see what the best deal is. Most phone shop assistants work on commission, so they’re very eager to sell you a phone, hence why they can sometimes be quite generous and offer you a good deal. Do your shopping properly, because you won’t like to find out you could have saved on your mobile phone!
2. Decide whether a contract is going to be cheaper
Whether a contract is cheaper than pay-as-you-go or not usually depends on how much you use your phone and for what kind of things you use it. If you do a lot of calling and texting, try to add up on average how many minutes you use or how many texts and work out how much it is costing in top-ups. You might find it’s a lot cheaper to pay a flat monthly rate and still be able to use all the same minutes and texts. Alternatively, if you’re already on a contract but find that you’re not using the minutes and texting allocated to you, estimate how much you would spend if you had a pay-as-you-go phone and topped up occasionally. You may find that is the cheaper option for you!
3. Look for deals with free gifts or special offers
Sometimes, providers and companies will offer “money off your next purchase” vouchers, two contracts at a cheaper price (great for families) or free gifts when you take out a contract. While you’re comparing prices, make sure you look also at any other deals and promotions hidden in there that you can take advantage of.
